Children’s Literature Resources


The purpose of this brochure is to provide a list of websites which deal with children’s literature. The focus is on the widely-known awards such as the Caldecott and Newbery, Carnegie and Greenaway, as well as those that are special in the southwest. Other websites which contain valuable information in the area of children’s literature have also been included; many include links to other related sites.

American Folklore Society

   Mildred L. Batchelder Award

   The purpose of this award is to encourage international exchange of quality children’s books by recognizing

      translations from United States publishers.

   Pura Belpré Award

      Cosponsored with REFORMA,  Presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays,

      affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.

   Randolph Caldecott Medal

      Award given to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children published during

      the preceding year.

   John Newbery Medal

   Presented to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published

       during the preceding year.

   Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award

       Begun in 2001 this new award is given for the most distinguished informational book of the year.

   Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal

    Honors an author or illustrator whose books, published in the United States, have made, over a period of years, a

        substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children.
